How Do You Get an ADT Security Certificate?
To obtain an ADT security certificate, install and activate an ADT security system through an authorized ADT dealer. The security certificate is included in ADT’s customer welcome materials. If additional certificates are needed, obtain a copy by contacting ADT customer service or using ADT’s mobile app.
An ADT security certificate provides proof that a property is protected by an authorized ADT security system. This certificate can be presented to insurance companies for discounts on homeowner’s insurance. The availability and amount of the discount varies between insurance providers.
ADT states that this discount may be up to 20 percent of the monthly homeowner’s insurance premium. Its online FAQ also states that this discount only applies to monitored systems from ADT, as of August 2015. Using an unmonitored system without an ADT subscription does not provide the discount.
A security certificate is not identical to an alarm permit. Alarm permits are required in some jurisdictions and are issued by the state, county or city in which the alarm is located. Contact the local police department to find out whether an alarm permit is required or not. Alarms without the required permits may result in a fine, and police are not obligated to respond to non-permitted burglar alarms in all jurisdictions.
