Nickelodeon is owned by Viacom International as of 2014, whereas Disney is owned by the Walt Disney Company, which is a competitor. Viacom owns other companies such as MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount Pictures. Walt Disney Company owns the ABC Entertainment Group, ESPN, A+E and Disney Channels Worldwide, among others.
The Walt Disney Company and Viacom International are both among the world’s 10 largest media conglomerates. In 2012, Viacom made $2 billion in profit, whereas The Walt Disney Company made $5.5 million in comparison. In terms of TV ratings, for the first time in 17 years, the Disney Channel beat Nickelodeon in total daily viewers in March 2012.
