Zombie power is used by bokor sorcerers in Haiti to make people appear to be zombies. The power consists of toxic chemicals that can irritate and break the skin. It also contains neurotoxins that can immobilize and make someone not respond to stimuli. The powder concoctions can be fatal.
Zombie powders are primarily made from ground plant and animal parts. The four most common ingredients include puffer fish, marine toads, hyla tree frogs and human remains. Glass has also been found in some powders.
Zombies are common in Haitian folklore, and some believe the bokor sorcerers poison individuals using zombie powder. The family presumes the person is dead and buries them. Once the toxins wear off, the person finds themselves buried alive.
