Young Life is a Christian ministry aimed at introducing young people to the message of Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith. The ministry began in Texas in 1939 by Jim Rayburn, a young minister, as a club for youngsters not interested in church.
The club's mission was to demonstrate to youth that faith in God was fun and exciting through skits, songs and a brief message about Christ. The volunteer adults built one-on-one friendships with adolescents and earned their trust, which in turn enabled them to lead the students on their spiritual journey. By the 1980s, the Young Life ministry grew to include a program called WyldLife, for middle school students, and Capernaum, to reach those with disabilities.
