Who Wrote Our Daily Bread?

Multiple authors are past and present contributors to the Our Daily Bread devotional materials, including Dr. M. R. DeHaan, the founder of the ministry. Other authors include past Denver Seminary president Vernon Grounds, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary professor Haddon Robinson and former Moody Bible Institute president Joe Stowell.

Our Daily Bread ministries began in 1938 by M. R. DeHaan, a doctor who became a pastor. DeHaan began a radio broadcast in Eastern Michigan called the Detroit Bible Class. Over time, people began requesting transcripts of his broadcasts to use as study materials. Those materials distributions later turned into additional resources including the popular Our Daily Bread devotional. The non-profit, non-denominational ministry also offers its daily devotionals on its website. "Our daily bread" is a phrase found in the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:11, where Jesus taught his disciples to pray including the request that God "Give us today our daily bread."
