In the New International Version of the English Bible, the word "faith" is used 16 times in the Old Testament and 254 times in the New Testament. Jesus frequently preaches about the characteristics of faith in the New Testament. The topic of faith is addressed extensively in the Bible, including in such books as Matthew, Hebrews, 1 Peter, 1 Corinthians, Galatians, James and Romans.
One popular verse about having faith is Hebrews 11:1, which states "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Faith is an integral part of not only believing in God, but also practicing the Christian faith, which requires much trust in God's character and abilities. The quality of having faithfulness is also one of the fruits of the spirit, as outlined in Galatians 5, which states that the fruits of the spirit are "love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Christians are commanded to strive for these characteristics in their life and walk with God.Learn more about Christianity
