On his program, "In Touch," Dr. Charles Stanley has delivered sermons dealing with meditating on God's word, the issues of false doctrine and utilizing God as a solution to anxiety and stress. Since 1971, Dr. Stanley has been the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Atlanta, or FBCA.
FBCA is a 13,000 member "mega-church" that is associated with the Southern Baptist Convention. While leading FBCA, Dr. Stanley has twice been elected to serve one-year terms as president of the Southern Baptist Convention and served in that capacity between 1984 and 1986. Dr. Stanley's nationwide ministry, "In Touch," began broadcasting on the radio in 1974 and expanded into television in 1978 when his program was broadcast by the Christian Broadcasting Network. Recent estimates are that "In Touch" broadcasts worldwide on more than 2,800 radio and television stations and in more than 50 different languages, as of 2015.
Dr. Stanley was inducted into the National Religious Broadcaster's Hall of Fame in 1988, and in 1999, "In Touch" was recognized as the radio program of the year by the National Religious Broadcasters association. In addition to his radio and television ministries, Dr. Stanley has authored more than 55 books, including numerous New York Times bestsellers, and received recognition from Thomas Nelson Publishing for having sold more than 3.5 million copies.
