When ranking washing machines, Consumer Reports divides its rankings by front loaders and top loaders, with Kenmore, Maytag, Electrolux and Samsung offering the top front-loading machines. For top-loading high-efficiency machines, the magazine prefers Samsung and LG as of 2015.
When choosing a washing machine, consumers need to look beyond name brand. While Consumer Reports found some GE models its top picks for top loading machines, other machines by the same manufacturer were among the models with the most reported problems, putting them at the bottom of the list. It found Frigidaire front-loading machines to be prone to need repairs and ranked them as the worst performing machines in their class.
