Which Tires Does Consumer Reports List As the Best?
As of February 2015, the most recent tire ratings by Consumer Reports have Michelin as the top overall brand for all types of tires. Other top-rated brands include Continental, Pirelli, Cooper and Hankook.
Consumer Reports splits its ratings up according to vehicle type and season.
For truck tires, Michelin was rated at or near the top in most categories. Michelin’s Latitude Tour and LTX M/S2 were the first and second best all-season truck tires. Its X-Ice XI2 was also rated as the top winter truck tire. The LTX M/S2 and X Radial LT2 were also at the top of the light truck all-season category. Other winners in the truck categories were Hankook’s Dynapro AT-M for all-terrain trucks and Cooper’s Discoverer A/T3 for all-terrain light trucks.
Michelin also placed well for car tires. Its Primacy MXV4 was the best H-rated performance all-season tire, the Defender was the best all-season T-rated tire, and the Pilot Sport A/S 3 was the best ultra high performance all-season tire. The Continental PureContact was the best performance all-season V-rated tire and the Pirelli P Zero was the best ultra high performance summer tire. Other companies that placed highly in the car tire rankings were Goodyear, Nexen and Yokohama.
