How Do You Do a Three-Point Turn?
To complete a three-point turn, complete the first part of the turn by turning the wheel all the way to the left and driving to the opposite curb. Complete the second turn by reversing the car with the wheel turned to the right. Finish the three-point turn by turning the wheel to the left and driving forward.
- Pull over to the right curb
Before starting the three-point turn, pull your car over to the right curb. Try to get your car as close to the curb as possible. A distance of 6 to 10 inches is preferable.
- Complete the first turn
Turn on your left blinker. Turn your steering wheel as far to the left as possible. Make sure there is no traffic coming, then drive forward until you are 6 to 10 inches from the opposite curb. The car should be close to perpendicular to the opposite curb.
- Make the second turn
Look to make sure there is no traffic coming from either way. Turn on your right turn signal, and turn your steering wheel as far right as possible. Put your car into reverse, and drive until you are headed in the direction in which you intend to travel.
- Make the third turn
Shift your car back into drive. Make sure traffic is clear, and drive forward to complete the three-point turn.
