Major theories about Area 51 include that the facility is used for examining and dissecting aliens and that the facility is used to store and reverse-engineer technology from alien spacecraft. Area 51 is a military base in Nevada.
The major theories involving Area 51 mostly stem from a 1947 incident in Roswell, New Mexico. A local rancher identified strange debris on his property, which theorists assert was the remains of an alien spacecraft. After the Roswell incident, stories began to emerge that the government was using Area 51, a top secret military base in nearby Nevada, to conduct autopsies on the aliens found in the wreckage. This ballooned into more general conspiracy theorizing, which held that Area 51 housed live aliens, dead aliens or aliens collaborating with the U.S. government. Certain individuals attempting to investigate the facility also claimed to receive visits from intimidating government agents, the so-called “Men in Black.”
The CIA’s eventual announcement that Area 51 is a military aircraft testing ground did little to quell alien conspiracy theories. Theorists now assert that Area 51 is a storage facility for alien spaceships, both the Roswell craft and others unknown to the public. Many theorists claim that scientists and engineers in Area 51 are involved in reverse-engineering alien technology in order to apply it to military aircraft, weaponry and other devices.
