What Sports Are Popular in Norway?

Popular sports in Norway include wrestling, skiing, cycling, shooting, curling, karate, handball, rowing, sled-dog racing, sailing, shooting, canoeing, football, dancing and speed skating. Some of Norway’s most successful sports are cross-country skiing, ski jumping, curling, speed skating and hockey.

Although winter sports are Norway’s specialty, summer sports are also popular, including boating sports like sailing, canoeing and rowing, as well as handball and shooting. Marathon running, handball and football are also popular.

In the 1992 Winter Games, Norway received three gold medals in cross-country skiing. They also excel at alpine skiing, bob and luge. The Norwegian Sports Foundation and Norwegian Olympic Committee create training and participation programs for professional and Olympic athletes.
