What Is Social Justice?

Appalachian State University defines social justice as equitable treatment of all people, support for human rights, valuing diversity and fair allocation of resources. It involves challenging injustice and preventing discrimination or prejudice. Social justice ensures that the least disadvantaged people in the society have access to the social opportunities.

Social justice ensures that people fulfill their roles in the society by contributing actively to social and economic development. Social justice is based on the philosophy of social contact, which mandates people to focus on the betterment of the society as a whole, rather than selfish interests. Appalachian State University notes that, in social justice, inequalities are only acceptable when all people have a reasonable chance or opportunity to achieve the positions which cause the inequalities.
