To reset a check engine light yourself, disconnect the car battery, then turn on the headlights for a few minutes to drain the remaining energy and cause a hard reset. Finally, reconnect the battery.

Loosen then remove the wire connected to the negative terminal. Then, remove the wire connected to the positive terminal.
- Drain the remaining electricity
Turn on the headlights, and wait a few minutes until there is no electricity remaining in the system.
- Reconnect the battery
First, reconnect and tighten the cable to the positive terminal, then do the same for the negative terminal.
