How Reliable Are Mitsubishi Cars?

Modern Mitsubishi cars have excellent reliability overall, with the Mitsubishi Lancer considered the most reliable car produced between 1997 and 2012. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport was also named the most reliable SUV of 2014 by consumer review website Consumer Reports.

Though newer Mitsubishi cars have high reliability overall, some model years have proved to be more reliable than others. For example, the 2005, 2007 and 2008 model years of the Mitsubishi Lancer are considered the most reliable years of that model, while the 2011 model year is considered the least reliable, as reported by car repair tracking site CarComplaints. However, the Outlander Sport has had excellent reliability ratings overall since its debut in 2011.

Older Mitsubishi models may not be as reliable as newer vehicles from this manufacturer. The Mitsubishi Eclipse has had significant issues reported by some owners with its transmission, as has the high-end Lancer Evolution performance car. The Mitsubishi Galant family sedan has not been as reliable over the long term as many of its Japanese-manufactured counterparts, as reported by automotive review site Edmunds. Finally, the mid-90’s Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 supercar is considered a highly-desirable vehicle by Mitsubishi enthusiasts, but its complex four-wheel drive system and electrical systems lead to considerable and costly amounts of maintenance.
