The traditional Rasta colors each symbolize an aspect of the Ethiopian region, black civil rights and/or the Rastafarian religion. Red symbolizes the blood of martyrs in the struggle for black freedom and the church of the Rastas. Yellow represents Africa's wealth, and green symbolizes Ethiopian foliage.

The Ethiopian flag features the same colors used on the flags of 20 other African countries. According to ReligionFacts, the colors are derived from the Ethiopian flag. Rastafarianism is an Ethiopian Hebrew religion practiced in Africa and Jamaica, among other places. There is a great deal of variance in the way Rastafarianism is practiced.
