The "Prayer for a Safe Journey" is directed toward Saint Christopher. Saint Christopher is one of the patron saints for safe travel in the Catholic Church and by far the most well known.
The "Prayer for a Safe Journey" reads as follows:
"O Lord, we humbly ask you to give Your Almighty protection to all travelers. Accept our fervent and sincere prayers that through Your great power and unfaltering spirit, those who travel may reach their destination safe and sound. Grant Your divine guidance and infinite wisdom to all who operate automobiles, trains, planes and boats. Inspire them with due sense of duty and knowledge, and help them guide those entrusted in their care to complete their travel safely. We thank You, Oh Lord, for Your great mercy and unending love to all mankind and for extending Your arm of protection to all travelers. Amen"
There have been several legends that led to the canonization of Saint Christopher as the patron saint of travel. The most well-known legend depicts Saint Christopher crossing a river with a child on his shoulders. When Saint Christopher lifted the child, he noticed the small child was quite heavy. The legend continues that the child was actually Christ. The child was so heavy because he was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.
