Some commonly used Bible verses for healing are 1 Peter 2:24, James 5:16, Jeremiah 17:14, Psalm 103:2-4 and Isaiah 53:4-5. Many people quote these verses during prayer to increase their feelings of faith and encouragement while they are ill.
James 5:16 is often used when people are gathered together to pray for healing, as it states to “pray for each other that you might be healed.” Peter 2:24 and Isaiah 53:4-5 both state that through Jesus’ death on the cross, healing is received: “by his wounds you are healed.” Although many verses are used to pray for physical healing, other verses refer to emotional healing. Psalm 147:3 states, “He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.” Other passages from Psalms used for spiritual and emotional encouragement are 30:2 and 107:19-21.
The Bible also contains longer passages that are not as easy to quote, but contain stories about healing. Matthew 8:5-17 tells about Jesus healing a centurion’s servant, as well as the mother-in-law of one of Jesus’ disciples. Luke 8:43-48 tells of a woman who was healed of a physical affliction by touching the robe of Jesus. Matthew 9:35 states, "Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness."
