As of 2014, Paris, the capital and most populous city of France, has a population of roughly 2.34 million. With an estimated 26 million visitors to the city each year, however, that number swells on a temporary basis. The greater metropolitan area extends to include more than 10.5 million residents.
Paris is considered the most diverse city in Europe, with an estimated 23 percent of the city's population having arrived there after birth, including more than 300,000 foreigners. According to Paris City Hall, many of those migrating to Paris do so at a young age for work, moving from the city at retirement to live a less expensive, more peaceful life.
