As of 2014, the estimated population of New York City reported by the U.S. Census Bureau was 8,491,079 people. This is a 3.9-percent increase in population from the 2010 census. As of November 2015, the U.S. Census Bureau has not published 2015 estimates.
In the 2010 census, 44 percent of the population self-reported as white, 28.6 percent self-reported as Hispanic, 25.5 percent self-reported as black, and the remaining 30.5 percent self-reported as either American Indian, two or more races, or Pacific islander. Additionally, more than half the population self-reported as female, and the highest-reported age demographic was individuals between 18 and 65.
