Types of cognac include V.S., V.S.O.P., and X.O.
V.S. stands for very superior. It is also called Three Stars and refers to cognac aged less than 4 1/2 years. V.S.O.P., stands for very superior old pale and refers to cognac aged between 4 1/2 and 6 1/2 years. X.O., or extremely old cognac, is aged between 5 1/2 and 40 years. Older cognac tends to be more expensive.
