When Is a Pomelo Ripe?

Pomelo ripens in 5.5 to 6 months. It has a pale green to yellow color, a thick rind and a juicy white, yellow, greenish yellow, pink or red flesh that consists of 11 to 18 segments. The fruit has a pear or round shape, with a large diameter of 5.9 to 9.8 inches. It has a sweet to slightly acidic taste.

Pomelo belongs to the Citrus maxima species, and it is the largest citrus fruit with a maximum weight of 20 pounds. It is also known by its other common name shaddock. Pomelo is native to Southeast Asia, including southern China and Malaysia.
