PepsiCo Inc. is an American manufacturer of foods and beverages with its headquarters in Purchase, N.Y. The company holds interests in producing, marketing and distributing beverages, snack foods and other products.
The company was founded after Frito-Lay Inc. became part of the Pepsi-Cola Company in 1965. PepsiCo has since expanded from its flagship product, Pepsi, to a wide range of foods and beverages. The largest brands are Tropicana and Quaker Oats. Tropicana was acquired in 1998, and Quaker Oats is a result of a 2001 merger. PepsiCo products were distributed in more than 200 countries as of 2012, with revenues of more than $43 billion. PepsiCo is the second-largest beverage and food business globally based on net revenues, and it is the largest in North America. As of 2013, the company employed about 274,000 people globally. Beverage bottling and distribution are conducted by the corporation and, in certain areas, by licensed bottling companies that are independent of PepsiCo.
