Pastor Arnold B. Murray was the senior pastor for The Shepherd's Chapel, a Christian church based in Gravette, Arkansas. Murray, who was also the founder of the church, served as its senior pastor until his death from a heart attack on Feb. 12, 2014.
In addition to holding services at the church, beginning in 1985 Pastor Murray also hosted weekly televised one hour Bible study lessons that were broadcast on more than 225 TV stations, including on DirecTV and Dish Network. The Shepherd's Church satellite network is thought to be the world's largest independent Christian television network. In addition to being broadcast on various satellite channels, the church's network is broadcasts are also shown 24 hours a day on its website.
Upon his death in 2014, Pastor Murray's position as senior pastor was taken over by his son Dennis Arnold Murray, who was previously the church's associate pastor. Pastor Murray's other son, David Vernon Murray, also served as an associate pastor at the church until he passed away in 2013.
Throughout his career, Arnold Murray was the subject of numerous controversies due to several of his beliefs. Some of Pastor Murray's controversial beliefs include his denial of the Holy Trinity, the existence of hell and the rapture. He also stated that Eve had sexual relations with Satan, which resulted in the birth of Cain.
