The size of a parallel parking space varies based on local regulations and the type of vehicle the space is intended to hold. For example, in Baltimore County, the proper size is 7.5 feet by 21 feet for regular cars and 7.5 feet by 18 feet for compact cars.

According to the South San Francisco Municipal Code, parallel parking spaces in the jurisdiction should be 8.5 feet wide and 20 feet long with an aisle space no smaller than 15 feet. In the South Pasadena Municipal Code, the local regulations mandate a parallel parking space size of 24 feet deep and 8.5 feet wide with an aisle width of 12 feet.
