What Is the Order of “The Pillars of the Earth” Trilogy?
The first book of “The Pillars of the Earth” trilogy by Ken Follett is entitled “The Pillars of the Earth.” The second book is “World Without End,” and the third novel is unnamed and still in progress as of October 2015.
“The Pillars of the Earth” is set in the 12th century in the fictional town of Kingsbridge and tells the story of the building of the world’s greatest Gothic cathedral. It details the lives of those involved in the cathedral’s construction and is both a love story and an epic.
The sequel, “World Without End,” is set two centuries later in the same town. While the story centers on the cathedral, it describes a more modern world where fresh ideas come up against the old way of doing things, setting the stage for conflict. As all of this is taking place, the Black Death is spreading across Europe.
