How Does One Cook Stuffing in the Oven?

To cook stuffing in the oven, grease a casserole dish or baking dish and add the stuffing to the dish. Cover the stuffing with stock, cover the mixture and bake it.

Baking stuffing in a dish in the oven offers more control over the recipe than stuffing it into a turkey. To make stuffing in the oven, use the following steps.

  1. Prepare the oven and a baking dish
  2. Turn on the oven to 350 F. Use butter to grease a 3-quart casserole dish or a 9 by 13 inch baking dish.

  3. Prepare the stuffing
  4. Prepare a bread-based stuffing recipe according to the recipe’s instructions.

  5. Add the stuffing to the dish
  6. Spoon the stuffing into the dish. Pour 1/2 cup of hot stock on top of the stuffing. This keeps the stuffing moist, creating a similar effect to cooking it inside of a turkey.

  7. Cover and bake the stuffing
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake the covered dish for around half an hour, then uncover the dish. Bake the stuffing for another 10 to 20 minutes. Remove the stuffing from the oven when the top is golden brown.

To help the bread in the stuffing keep its shape, toast it before preparing the stuffing. Cooks can prepare stuffing in a baking dish in advance, but should serve it the same day that it is cooked.
