How Old Is the Earth, According to the Bible?

Though there is some disagreement among biblical scholars about its exact age, the Earth is generally believed to be no more than a few thousand years old. Some biblical calculations show the Earth to be 6,000 years old.

Biblical scholars arrived at this number by tracing the timeline of events recorded in the Bible, beginning with the six days of Creation, as well as the lineages of families and kingdoms. The most well-known of these chronologies is the Ussher Chronology, which was calculated by James Ussher in the 17th century. Ussher believed that Creation occurred on Oct. 23, 4004, B.C.
