Since Levaquin causes dizziness or lightheadedness, most medical professionals recommend limiting drinking alcoholic beverages although it is technically safe to drink alcohol while taking Levaquin, as reported by RxList. Levaquin has also been known to cause other common side effects like nausea, diarrhea, headaches and trouble sleeping. Other rarer side effects that require immediate medical attention include chest pains, vision changes, tremors, seizures, severe dizziness, severe and persistent headaches, fainting, fast or irregular heartbeats, signs of liver problems, stomach or abdominal pains, nerve problems and mental or mood changes like confusions, hallucinations, depression and suicidal thoughts.
Levaquin, also known as Levofloxacin, is a synthetically made broad-spectrum antibacterial agent that can either be taken orally or intravenously to combat bacterial infections, but not viral nor fungal infections. This medication works by stopping bacterial growth, and should be taken at the same time each day for optimal effectiveness.
The dosage of Levaquin prescribed and the length of the course is dependent on each patient’s kidney function, medical condition and also body’s response to the medication. Levaquin is also prescribed to children; however, dosages will then also be dependent on the children’s weight. Oral dosages need to be taken once daily with or without food.
