One’s odds of making the NBA depend greatly on their level of experience up to that point. In the best-case scenario, an NCAA division I player has a 1 in 365 chance to make it to the NBA.

A player has a 1 in 365 chance of making the NBA if they are coming from the NCAA and have at least a year of experience at the division I level, which is required by the NBA as of 2014. However, before this requirement was put into effect, a player attempting to make the NBA out of high school had only a 1 in 3,249 chance of successfully being kept on a roster.
