What Is the Normal Heart Rate for Women?

The normal heart rate for women is between 60 and 100 beats per minute, according to the American Heart Association. Medications, body size, body position, fitness level and air temperature affect heart rates while resting or exercising.

Faster heart rates can be the result of thyroid medication, obesity, stress, anxiousness, happiness, high temperatures or high humidity, states the American Heart Association. Slower heart rates can result from beta blockers or athleticism.

To take a pulse, press the tips of three fingers to the palm side of the wrist below the bottom of the thumb, recommends the Cleveland Clinic. Track the blood pulsing for 10 seconds, and then multiply by six to get the number of beats per minute.
