Normal HCT, or hematocrit, levels are 38.8 to 50 percent for men and 34.9 to 44.5 percent for women, according to Mayo Clinic. For hemoglobin, or Hgb, tests, normal results are 12 to 15.5 grams per deciliter for women and 13.5 to 17.5 for men.
In HCT and Hgb tests, the normal range for children varies by age and sex, reports Mayo Clinic. Hematocrit tests look at the proportion of red blood cells compared to all blood cells. Hemoglobin is a type of protein found in red blood cells that transports oxygen throughout the body. The Hgb test measures how much hemoglobin is present in the blood.
