What Is the Normal Blood Pressure Range for Men?
For adult men and women, the normal blood pressure is below 120/80, where the top number is systolic pressure and the bottom number is diastolic pressure, states Mayo Clinic. Teenagers and children can have lower blood pressure readings. There are also different classifications for blood pressure ranges.
Pre-hypertension blood pressure ranges are 120 to 139 for systolic pressure and 80 to 89 for diastolic. The hypertensive stage 1 category refers to a blood pressure rang that has a systolic reading that ranges from 140 to 159 and a diastolic range of 90 to 99. A blood pressure reading that is 160/100 or higher is called stage 2 hypertension, notes the American Heart Association.
The systolic reading, which is a measure of arterial pressure during a heartbeat, is the higher number in blood pressure readings. The diastolic reading has the lower number, and it indicates the arterial pressure when the heart is at rest between beats.
