During Hajj Muslims wear the clothes of Ihram, which, for men, consists of two simple, white sheets. One sheet is draped over the shoulder while the other is secured at the waist with a belt. Women's clothing has more variety, and they are not permitted to cover their faces.
Women are only required to wear something loose fitting which covers their body and hair. The objective of Ihram clothing is to make everyone look the same, as there is no difference in social status when everyone is dressed equally in the face of God. Even using perfume or any artificial scent on the body or clothing is not permitted.
