What Is the Muslim House of Worship Called?

The Muslim house of worship is known as a mosque. Muslim men gather at the mosque on a Friday at noon to pray together.

One of the most important features of the mosque is the mihrab. This is a niche in the wall that shows the direction of Mecca. Muslims pray towards Mecca which is the city where they believe the Prophet Muhammad was born. The minaret is a tower that is either attached or located adjacent to the mosque. The call to prayer is announced from the minaret. The minaret is not only functional but it is a reminder of Islam.
