Muhammad was born in the year 570 in the Arabian city of Mecca. Although illiterate, he married a wealthy woman who was 15 years his senior. It was this wealthy marriage that gave Muhammad time to reflect on the problems facing his people. In Mecca at the time, there was general unrest. Politically, Muhammad created the framework that made the unification of the Arab tribes possible. This paved the way for the Arab Empire to grow and for the Islamic religion to expand beyond Mecca.
The compilation of Muhammad’s revelations that form the Quran are held by those of the Muslim faith to be from God. It is the Islamic sacred text.
Muhammad was said to be a charming person who was tender and gentle with his people and is remembered as a visionary, administrator and statesman.
