Devout Mormons do not drink alcoholic beverages. They are also strictly forbidden to drink caffeinated beverages, such as coffee or tea. Mormons also cannot partake in illegal drugs or in the consumption of tobacco in any form.
Mormons' strict dietary guidelines are outlined in section 89 of Doctrine and Covenants, in an LDS publication known to Mormons as "Word of Wisdom." This doctrine further stipulates that Mormons should partake in healthy eating habits and donating money that they do not need to the less fortunate. Mormons also practice fasting once per month, believing that spiritual blessings are forthcoming when a person donates to the needy and keeps her body as a temple.
