Depending on the faith from which someone views the question, modern-day false prophets include the leaders of Scientology, the Mormon Church, the Pope and the Dalai Lama. Others reserve the term for individuals such as some television evangelists that claim to speak directly to God.
From the perspective of some believers of Islam, anyone that promotes any form of faith other than their interpretation of Islam constitutes a false prophet. Similarly, believers of different forms of Christianity often claim that leaders of other forms constitute false prophets. The term is also used by some people of faith to describe outspoken atheists or scientists that advocate reliance on observed fact rather than religious faith, especially in the context of evolution and creationism.
