What Is an MEDC Country?

"MEDC" is an acronym for more economically developed country. Its meaning is similar to terms such as advanced country, industrialized country, more developed country, Global North country, first world country or post-industrial country.

Nations designated as MEDC have high per capita income and high gross domestic products. MEDCs pursue the expansion of manufacturing industries and provide a wider access to in-classroom public education. A less economically developed country relies more heavily on agriculture and has fewer educational opportunities. Another measure, the Human Development Index, combines an economic measure, national income, indices for life expectancy and education. MEDCs have high HDI ratings.
