Red is the color of the root chakra, associated with dominance and anger but also belonging and trust. The sacral chakra is paired with orange, representing imagination, feelings, wisdom and sexual energy. Yellow is the color for the solar plexus chakra, symbolizing energy related to vitality and personal empowerment.
The heart chakra, believed to bridge the physical and spiritual, is represented by the color green. The energy or meaning of this chakra relates to the gifts of healing and serenity, as well as the challenges of criticism and judgement. The throat chakra is associated with one's ability to communicate and to hear. Its corresponding color is blue.
The third-eye chakra, which is in the center of the forehead, has the color indigo, which speaks to intuitiveness and spiritual connection. Violet, the color of the crown chakra, is representative of cosmic awareness and the strength of one's connection with the infinite.
The seven chakras, or energy centers, are believed in certain Buddhist and Hindu circles to be aligned from the base of the spine to the crown of the head and to provide information regarding one's emotional, physical, mental and spiritual state. Each color assigned to the different chakras references aspects of the human condition, manifested as gifts or challenges.
