Being born on the cusp of two different astrological signs can be said to have different effects on an individual; according to some astrologers, being born on a cusp imparts special characteristics, while others may say that it simply points to a more complex personality that blends characteristics of each of the signs on either side of the cusp. Some astrologers have even gone so far as to designate special significance to each cusp, with names such as "the cusp of beauty" for the Virgo-Libra cusp (September 19-25) and "the cusp of magic" for the Gemini-Cancer cusp (June 17-23).

Whether one chooses to follow the astrologers who advocate for each cusp's unique characteristics or those who simply identify these dates as a blending of two signs seems to be a matter of preference. Astrologers who point to cusp births indicating a blend of two signs' characteristics may still ascribe special meaning to these dates. For example, it may be said that someone born on the Capricorn-Aquarius cusp (January 19-23) are stubbornly imaginative, striving to attain a specific vision, which blends the stubborn qualities of the Capricorn with the creative abilities of the Aquarius. It is worth noting that some astrologers seem to disagree on the exact dates of what constitutes a cusp.
