A New Jersey resident, the fictional Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, is described as a second-generation American of Pakistani descent. She is the first Muslim Marvel character to get a solo title. The comics' script writer, G. Willow Wilson, stated in an interview that she wanted to give Khan a well-rounded personality and avoid portraying an American Muslim in a stereotypical manner.
