As of 2014, there are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world. That number is expected to grow to 2.2 billion by 2030. Islam, the religion practiced by Muslims, is the second-largest religion in the world.
Close to one billion, or two-thirds, of the world’s Muslims reside in Asia and the Pacific Islands. About 350 million live in India and Pakistan alone. Another 300 million live in North Africa and the Middle East. There are close to 45 million Muslims in Europe, three million in North America and another 840,000 in Latin America, which has the smallest population of Muslims in the world. Researchers expect the growth rate of Islam to drop from 1.7 percent to 1.4 percent until 2030.
