Statistics on the number of millionaires in the United States are widely varied. The Capgemini World Wealth Report released in June 2015 says there are 4.3 million millionaires in the United States while Boston Consulting says there are 6.9 million, and Credit Suisse says there are 14.2 million.
The reason the reported numbers of millionaires are so different is because there are different definitions of a millionaire. Some of the studies measured individual wealth while others measured household wealth, and some studies included all assets, such as homes and art collections in their calculations, while others only included investible wealth. Despite the varying numbers of the studies, as of 2015, there are more millionaires living in the United States than ever previously recorded.
