How Many Kids Get Bullied Each Year?
Approximately 3.2 million students are victims of bullies each year. According to DoSomething.org, about 90 percent of students in grades 4 through 8 have reported being a victim of bullying, and one in four teachers admitted to witnessing an act of bullying and failing to intervene.
Approximately 160,000 students skip school every day out of fear of being bullied. Bullying occurs when one child is relentlessly mean to another. This type of behavior often includes teasing, spreading rumors, talking about someone behind their back, ignoring someone, leaving someone out on purpose or attacking a child and being physically violent. Bullying can occur in person or through the Internet.
