Almost 80 percent of the population in the United States is made up of those identifying themselves as Caucasian, which is why the Western culture is considered predominant. Almost 13 percent of the population is made up of African Americans, while 4.43 percent is made up of Asians. Native Americans and Alaskan natives make up a mere 0.97 percent.
