A shot of bourbon contains approximately 100 calories, when it is 40 percent alcohol and 80 proof. However, the exact calorie count may depend on the specific brand.
A single shot of bourbon is 1.5 fluid ounces. Bourbon contains no protein, calories from fat, trans fat, saturated fan, carbohydrates, sugar, sodium or cholesterol. There are several ways someone can burn off 100 calories, after a shot of bourbon. Burning these calories requires 28 minutes of walking, eight minutes of swimming, 11 minutes of jogging or 15 minutes of cycling. Popular mixed cocktails that contain bourbon include the old fashioned, mint julep, whiskey sour, derby and boulevardier.
