The Zion Lutheran Church is located at 2982 Davis Road, Fairbanks, Alaska. The church was founded in 1957 when the Northwest District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod developed a plan to start a mission in Fairbanks.
As of 2015, the Northwest District of the LCMS, whose main office is in Portland, is made up of 267 congregations in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska. The LCMS has an international center in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod was founded in 1847 when immigrants decided to establish a new church in America to practice confessional Lutheranism. On April 26, 1847, 12 pastors who represented 14 congregations from Ohio, New York, Michigan, Missouri, Indiana and Illinois signed the church’s constitution at First Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Chicago.
