How Long Should You Boil Red Potatoes?

The boiling time for 2 pounds of baby red potatoes or five to 10 small red potatoes is anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes, but boiling should continue until the potatoes are tender. Boil red potatoes in salted water.

Test a cooked potato for tenderness with a fork. Use a colander for proper draining. The potatoes can be returned to the original boiling pot or placed in a bowl, where 2 to 3 tablespoons of margarine or butter can be added, but the amount of butter depends on the number of potatoes. Dill and chives are other common additions. Add salt or pepper to enhance the taste.
