The largest religion in the world is Christianity. As of 2014, over 2 billion people consider themselves Christian. Christianity follows the teachings of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the Messiah. Jesus was an itinerant Jewish preacher who lived in Roman-occupied Judea about 2,000 years ago.
Christians believe that Jesus was the son of God who was sent to Earth to redeem humanity of its sins. They also believe that he rose from the dead three days after being crucified, and they expect him to return in the Second Coming. Christians believe in a tripartite God consisting of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
